Julian and Eunice Cohen Scholarship

“If you have been truly fortunate, care for your loved ones and care for people less fortunate than you.”
JULIAN AND EUNICE COHEN

Julian, a graduate of Dartmouth College, pioneered the shopping center industry in New England in the mid-1950s. As a partner and co-founder of Leatherbee & Company and C&R Management Co., he was instrumental in building many of the most successful and prominent shopping centers in the area. Eunice, a Boston native and Harvard graduate, married Julian in 1962. They moved to Palm Beach in the 1970s and got involved with the Community Foundation (Julian was board chair and chair of the scholarship committee).

“We were both brought up in families that were philanthropic,” Mr. Cohen explains. “We were taught to give away to those who were less fortunate. As we got older and accumulated more wealth, we became even more strongly committed to giving.”

“She was something different.  Everyone loved her.”  Mr. Cohen recalls.  “She was a wonderful woman.”

They found their involvement with the Community Foundation to be particularly rewarding, Mr. Cohen says.  “I think the Foundation does wonderful work. The scholarships are especially exciting. They help many young people who would never have a chance to go to college.”

Not only does Julian Cohen have a brilliant mind, he has a good heart. Together with his late wife, Eunice, he has shown how much he cares for our community with his generous gifts to education, the arts, and countless other causes.
