Community Foundation Celebrates Philanthropy at 2nd Annual Founder’s Award Luncheon

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (May 12, 2015) – The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties will host its annual Founder’s Award Luncheon on Wednesday, June 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Kravis Center’s Cohen Pavilion. The exciting program will honor Palm Beach resident William M. Matthews with the Founder’s Award for the impact he has made in the community.  Ann Christiano, Frank and Betsy Karel Endowed Chair in Public Interest Communications at the University of Florida, will serve as keynote speaker and discuss the “5 Imperatives for Social Changemakers.”

“Will Matthews was a member of our board of directors for nearly 20 years, serving as chairman from 2006-2010. He is an important part of the Community Foundation’s history, and has shared his passion for the community with his children. His daughter, Christina Macfarland currently serves on our board,” said President and CEO, Bradley Hurlburt. “The Matthews support the local community in many ways including athletic programs, the Flagler Museum, Palm Beach Day Academy, Society of the Four Arts and Bethesda By the Sea to name a few. Will has always believed in the Community Foundation’s mission and we’re proud to be able to honor him with this award.” 

More than 500 people are expected to attend the luncheon, including board members, donors and fund holders, local nonprofit organizations, corporate sponsors and community leaders. The Community Foundation will also announce its 2014/2015 grant recipients and United Way of Palm Beach County will join them to announce the grand total raised during Great Give Palm Beach & Martin Counties. This 24-hour online giving event held on May 5-6 benefited 437 participating nonprofits. Julie Fisher Cummings, last year’s honoree, will present the 2015 Founder’s Award.
