Community Foundation and United Way Partner to Make History by Hosting the GREAT GIVE PBC on May 6, 2014

Joins Give Local America; 100+ Communities Across the Country
to Create Largest Online Giving Event in History

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FLA. (February 11, 2014) – On May 6, 2014, everyone in our community gets the chance to be a philanthropist. The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties and United Way of Palm Beach County have teamed up to host the GREAT GIVE PBC, a 24-hour online giving event designed to raise as much money as possible for local nonprofits in a single day. This county-wide event will celebrate the spirit of giving and collective effort it takes to strengthen our community.

“Our mission is to connect philanthropists to community needs, and the GREAT GIVE PBC is a way we can touch all our local nonprofits in a lasting way,” said Brad Hurlburt, president and CEO of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties. “We’re asking everyone in the community to get behind this effort. Large and small gifts will combine for a big impact.”

All qualified, local nonprofits are invited to participate in the GREAT GIVE PBC and anyone can make a donation on the day – the minimum is $10. Every gift will be multiplied with bonus dollars from a local pool raised by the Community Foundation and a national pool raised by Give Local America. There will also be opportunities for donors and organizations to win cash and prizes throughout the day to keep things fast-paced and exciting.

“The GREAT GIVE PBC is also a way for donors to learn more about the spectrum of nonprofits that are serving our community,” said Dr. Laurie George, President and CEO of the United Way of Palm Beach County. “Every participating nonprofit will have a profile page with information about their mission and services. Donors can make a gift to their favorite charity, or do research and give to new ones. It’s a very exciting and unique philanthropic opportunity for everyone involved and United Way is proud to be a partner.”

GREAT GIVE PBC is also one of more than 100 giving days across the country being promoted in partnership with Give Local America, making it likely to be the largest online fundraising event in history.

There will be a series of trainings in advance of May 6 for all interested nonprofit organizations. Nonprofits must be registered 501(c)(3) organizations that provide services in Palm Beach County and are IRS and Patriot Act Compliant. Eligible organizations must establish a profile on the fundraising site and review and complete the Agreement in order to be considered for participation.  The Community Foundation is hosting sessions on Feb. 11 and Feb. 28 in West Palm Beach. United Way will host sessions at their Boynton Beach headquarters on Feb. 20 and March 6. Registration is available on www.GreatGivePBC.EventBrite.com.

Special events for the general public are being planned around the county on May 6, and details will be announced in the coming months. Follow #GreatGive for updates:
