Charitable Fund Types

The Community Foundation offers a variety of charitable fund options to help meet your philanthropic goals. From donor advised funds (which allow you to engage in active grantmaking) to community impact funds (which rely on the foundation’s knowledge of the community for grantmaking decisions), our funds allow you to choose your level of participation.  Create your legacy at the Community Foundation.

Here are some ways to give:

The Leadership Fund - this fund was created to support the Community Foundation’s “beyond grantmaking” work in Palm Beach and MartinCounties. This unique fund helps to support the Foundation’s leadership as it identifies critical challenges facing our community; commissions research; holds public forums; and convenes community leaders. Become a friend of the Community Foundation.

Community Impact Funds – provide an option for donors interested in investing in Palm Beach and Martin Counties, and who want the flexibility to respond to pressing and often changing needs in our community. With the collective experience of our board and staff, you can be sure that the grants made from your named fund will have as much impact decades from now as they do today.

Donor Advised Funds – provide a flexible, personalized way to support nonprofit organizations locally and on a national basis. You retain the right to recommend grants to charitable agencies of your choice over time, so that while the tax benefit starts immediately, grant decisions can be made over the years.  If you wish, your children may be successor advisors to the fund, making grants from the fund, and thus continuing the family’s philanthropic involvement in the community.

Field of Interest Funds - support a specific issue or geographic area such as the environment, education or Boca Raton. What issues are most important to you in our community? You can create a fund that addresses what you care about most and we ensure your funds are directed to nonprofits addressing that issue.

Scholarship Funds – provide scholarship assistance. The Community Foundation administers numerous scholarship funds created for a variety of purposes.  You simply create the criteria to be used in selecting the perfect recipient, and we do the rest. You may, if desired, also participate on scholarship selection committees with foundation staff and foundation-appointed community volunteers to identify recipients.

Designated Funds - support one or more charitable organizations close and dear to your heart now and after your lifetime.  The Community Foundation will make annual grants from the fund’s income to the charities named by you. If one of the charitable organizations ceases to exist or stops providing the type of service that interest you, we will make sure the fund stays current and vital by finding another agency that fulfills your charitable intent.

Agency Endowment Funds - endowments of local nonprofit organizations. Nonprofit organizations establish an endowment fund with us in order to grow assets to meet both current and future needs. Agency Endowment Funds provide sources of revenue for the organization in perpetuity.

Supporting Organization – a special fund with its own grantmaking ability and board of directors.  A supporting organization functions as a separate, nonprofit charitable corporation that receives public charity status through its relationship with the Community Foundation.
