The Sharma Family Fund

Born in India, Sanjiv Sharma arrived in this country in 1981 to continue his education at Columbia University. Due to financial needs, Mr. Sharma took a year off and found a position with a Wall Street financial firm. Little did he know at the time, that experience would lead him to a successful career in the investment world.

Mr. Sharma commented that, “When you work hard and do well you have very little time. As a fortunate person, I always knew I wanted to do something charitable. Giving back is important, but I didn’t have time for the due diligence involved in creating a private foundation. A friend suggested I contact the Community Foundation and that’s what I did.”

Sanjiv Sharma established two different types of charitable funds. The Sharma Family Fund, a Donor Advised Fund, and the Pundit Mulchand and Janki Devi Sharma Scholarship Fund. Those funds enable him to achieve his charitable goals while leaving their management to the Community Foundation’s expert investment advisors and staff.

The Community Foundation provides a simple, flexible way to give back and to fulfill the charitable wishes of people like Mr. Sharma.

"My decision to make a donation to the Community Foundation came down to trust. I knew that my dollars would be used to serve the community under the able stewardship of foundation staff."
