The concept of community foundations began in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. and spread rapidly in the 1920s and 1930s. Today, there are more than 700 community foundations located throughout the United States. Community foundations did not appear in the state of Florida until the 1960s but grew quickly in the 1970s.
The Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties was established in 1972 and is one of the oldest and largest foundations in Florida. We administer charitable funds for our donors to support the needs of Palm Beach and Martin counties.
