Nonprofits Going Green

The Idea

The Community Foundation understands that “going green” is not just a fad but a necessary process of transforming the way we live, work and build communities. Nonprofits often serve as incubators and educators for positive changes in our community. However, nonprofits are concerned about fundraising in a challenging economy and how to juggle being “green” amongst many competing priorities. The Community Foundation understands and is working to address this need and opportunity. Through our Nonprofits Going Green Program, we aim to provide all nonprofits incentives, tools and resources to “go green.”

The goals of the overall Nonprofits Going Green Program include:

  • To raise awareness, capacity, motivation within the nonprofit community in Palm Beach and Martin Counties to improve the environmental sustainability of their operations.
  • To raise public and corporate awareness and support for the nonprofit community.

Taking Action

The Community Foundation has also gathered tips and resources for nonprofit organizations on going green. As the first green certified nonprofit in the nation we have also provided technical support to other nonprofits seeking to become green certified.

To both recognize and share best practices, the Community Foundation created the Nonprofits Going Green Contest. Winners of the 4th Annual Nonprofits Going Green were honored at the annual awards luncheon on April 16, 2011; learn more about the event and the winners. The 4th Annual Nonprofits Going Green contest was sponsored by the Environmental Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation and our valued sponsors:
