Connecting to Causes
When Dan Shorter, director of the Feed the Hungry at Village Baptist Church completed his online profile on the Community Foundation’s Philanthropy Online system, little did he realize how a generous connection would be made.
Dan didn’t just upload information about his organization on Philanthropy Online, he addressed the challenges of meeting the increased demand to feed thousands of people. He also included the agency’s most urgent need -- another truck to rescue and transport food to soup kitchens, homeless shelters and pantries that would help feed over 30,000 families.
Philanthropy Online is more than an information tool for nonprofit organizations like Feed the Hungry. It’s an important resource that helps donors manage their philanthropy by educating them about giving opportunities and assisting them with grantmaking. More importantly, it provides a connection to causes that can enhance our donors’ charitable giving.
When a donor in Palm Beach County contacted the Community Foundation seeking information on our community’s most pressing issues, the Foundation accessed Philanthropy Online to identify needs that matched his philanthropic interests. Many needs were presented to our donor – including the Feed the Hungry's need for a new truck.
Much to the surprise of Dan and Feed the Hungry, they received an unexpected holiday gift when our donor generously supported their need for a new truck. And, it was Philanthropy Online that helped our donor make the connection and support a need that was important to him.
Philanthropy Online is a service available to fundholders who have established a fund at the Community Foundation. For more information about Philanthropy Online, please <click here>.
